You’re not crazy if it feels like you drive by a dollar store every few blocks. Their presence in the American landscape has become truly ubiquitous. They do business as Dollar General, Dollar Tree, and Family Dollar, among others, each with its own unique pricing model and product selection. To put that figure into context, Walmart now operates 4,717 locations across the United States. That means dollar stores outnumber Walmart locations by a staggering ratio of nearly eight to one. They’ve become a fundamental part of the modern shopping experience for millions.
But I don’t want to bore you with statistics and other useless information, as impressive as they are. There are a ton of other stores available in the U.S., that seem better than Dollar stores on the surface, and people usually need more reasons to trust a certain thing besides reading gibberish online. Many people still hold onto outdated notions that these stores only sell junk or are only for those struggling financially. Guess what? That’s why I am here. I want to pull back the curtain and show you the real value, which often has little to do with that one-dollar price tag. Why spend a small fortune on items you’ll only use for a few weeks out of the year?
During the spring season, they stock up on gardening stuff or yard decorations, which are way more affordable here than in other places. You can find pots, seed packets, gloves, and small trowels to get your garden started. In August, they start bringing school supplies, which are a bargain, and even if they aren’t top-notch, your kids will probably break them or lose them in the first week, so it’s fine. Notebooks, pens, folders, and poster boards are all smart buys. With Halloween just around the corner, you will definitely find affordable costumes or decorations to improve the old ones but also to boost the look of your porch. Think spooky window clings, bags of spider webs, and fun party favors for trick-or-treaters.
